When
you have wronged someone, is it hard for them to forgive
you? Forgiveness. In Paul's shortest epistle, only 334
words in the Greek text, Paul appeals to Philemon to
forgive Onesimus and to regard him no longer as a slave
but as a brother in Christ. Paul was in prison in Rome
and wrote this plea letter in A.D. 60 or 61. Philemon
was a Colosse resident and like Onesimus was a convert
of Paul's too. We realize that as Philemon restores
Onesimus to himself on account of Paul's plea from
prison, it is like God restoring us when we commit sin
and Jesus standing in on our behalf for that
restoration. Onesismus was condemned by the law but
saved by grace. As true forgiveness comes when something
has either happened against you or you committed
something against someone else, the love of God begins
to be revealed. If there is someone you need to seek
forgiveness from or if you need to forgive someone,
don't wait. The Bible says that until we forgive our
brothers their trespasses, Christ won't forgive ours.

Our Father Who art in Heaven,
May Your Words of Your Bible that we have placed on this
Online Bible site, minister to all that come to read it.
May their eyes and ears be opened to what it is that You
desire for them to know. As they read Philemon, please
minister to them in a way only You know how to. May the
Words come alive in their hearts as they yield
themselves to what it is You have for them. Thank You
Heavenly Father for sending Your One and Only Son, Jesus
Christ, to die for our sins. Thank You for making a way
for us to gain salvation. May all that hear, believe; so
they too may have eternal life. Praise Your Holy Name,
Lord!
In Jesus Christ Name, we pray
Amen. |
